Replay now: Andre Louis composes the music for our next podcast season

In this episode of the Sound Without Sight podcast, we welcome Andre Louis, who composes a full track in around an hour using Logic Pro and Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol with a screen reader. Andre refers to the session as ‘musical cheffing’ and he takes suggestions for ingredients from attendees! He also answers questions from attendees throughout the session.

This podcast was recorded live, as part of the Sound Without Sight Monthly Meet-up for July 2025.

More information

Andre writes:

I was tasked with creating music for the Sound Without Sight Podcast in one hour in front of a live audience. The plan: Take requests from those in attendance about key, feel, style, genre, tempo etc and build a track with those thoughts in-mind.

We settled on a Pop/Funk idea in a major key. I chose E Major and went with Rhodes, Drums, Bass and a synth line to create the track. This was then followed up with a Q&A session about what I use and how I use it. For those interested, I use Logic Pro, Komplete Kontrol and a Native Instruments Kontrol S61 MK3 keyboard.

Thanks to all those who joined the live session and I hope you found it interesting/useful/inspiring in your own way. Thanks also to Sound Without Sight for the idea for me to practice my ‘Musical Cheffing’ on a different scale than I usually do. Normally I’m working on a call with perhaps three or four people but there were quite a few more this time around.

Add your ideas

During the session, Andre exports a multitrack, rough mix, and MIDI file. Could you add an instrumental layer? Do you have ideas for production or processing?

Using the Dropbox link below, you can download the audio multitrack and rough mix from Andre’s Logic session. There is also a MIDI file, if you would like to try different sounds or tweaking the musical parts for the four tracks that Andre recorded in the session. These files should open in any DAW, not only Logic.

Please feel free to share new versions with us – we would love to hear how you reimagine the track!
