Support for future Monthly Meet-ups confirmed – have your say!

Following a successful pilot of five volunteer-led Monthly Meet-up Sessions, we are very happy to share that Sound Without Sight has been awarded a grant from RNIB’s Elizabeth Eagle-Bott Memorial Fund to sustain these sessions until July 2025. This support will allow us to offer a fee to our headline guests, cover some of the staff time required to organise, promote, and run the Meet-up Sessions, as well as publish the recording in a timely manner.

What are the Monthly Meet-up Sessions?

Our virtual Monthly Meet-up Sessions bring together established professionals, community members who are just starting out, and everybody in between. The Sessions create a space to share knowledge, solutions, and tips for success. As well as showcasing the work and journey of a featured headline guest at each Meet-up, the sessions foster a supportive environment for blind and partially sighted musicians to learn from their peers and develop confidently, whether that be during education, into employment, or for leisure.

The recording of each session is published afterwards, along with a transcript, to document guests’ solutions and insights and ensure that these are discoverable in the future via the Sound Without Sight website. We hope that this will increase awareness of VI musicians’ capabilities, and naturally provide a resource that employers, educators, and organisations can tap into to support their musicians.

We hope that a regular flow of such Sessions will continue to grow our community and keep members coming back. If you’ve not yet joined a Monthly Meet-up Session, you can learn more about our next one and register.

What are we looking for?

To ensure that our Meet-ups cover all areas that the project aims to support, Sessions will broadly fall into one of several categories:

  • Accessing audio production.
  • Accessing music notation.
  • Accessing performance and instruments.
  • Accessing music industry opportunities and culture.
  • Inclusive design showcases of music products.

How can I help?

It’s incredibly important to us that the Meet-up Sessions meet the needs of our community, so we would like to hear which topics you would find most useful or interesting to hear about. Are there any barriers to music or sound related activities that you would like to see addressed? Can you think of any inspiring blind or partially sighted musicians or industry professionals who would make a good guest? Please send your ideas to:

We are also interested to hear from you if you are interested in volunteering to help us run and promote the Monthly Meet-up Sessions. There are a number of roles that would be hugely helpful, including:

  • Promoting each event to relevant organisations and groups.
  • Making notes from the recording and collating key resources that are mentioned.
  • Social media content creation and promotion: creating graphics, editing snippets from the recording, adding subtitles, etc.
  • Editing out undesirable content from the video recording of the session.

If any of these roles interest you, then please contact us:

Thank you very much for your support!
