Next Meet-up: introduction to Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol and NKS

We are excited to announce our next Monthly Meet-up – a presentation and Q&A with Chris Ankin, music producer and founder of KK-Access, and Tim Adnitt, Vice President of Product Management at Native Instruments. Register below!

Chris and Tim will provide an overview of Komplete Kontrol and the NKS ecosystem, sharing how the accessibility features of Native Instruments products could be a useful stepping stone in helping blind and visually impaired musicians to achieve their creative ambitions.

Topics will include:

A breakdown of how the different software and hardware products within the Komplete Kontrol ecosystem interact.
Getting up and running with Komplete Kontrol.
An explanation of NKS (Native Kontrol Standard) and how it can make other companies’ plugins and sound libraries accessible too.

This will be followed up by a Q&A session, which will give attendees the opportunity to ask questions.

This session is likely to be useful to music producers, composers, or those interested in music technology.

About Chris Ankin

Chris Ankin is a blind producer, composer, and music technology writer who has worked in and around the music industry for over 40 years.

He created the Komplete Kontrol accessibility email group and also the KK-Access website for blind and visually impaired users, as a direct response for the need to share and collate information centred around Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol hardware, software, and NKS ecosystem.

The email list allows subscribers to ask questions and help one another with related topics, whilst the website serves as a resource for written NKS product reviews, with further tutorials and useful guides.

About Tim Adnitt

Tim is Vice President of Product Management at Native Instruments. Based in London and Berlin, he has more than twenty-five years’ experience in the Music Technology industry, having held positions at Sibelius Software and Avid before joining Native Instruments in 2013. Tim is a long-standing advocate for accessibility in Music Technology, co-designing the Kontrol keyboard accessibility features and regularly speaking on the topic at global industry events including NAMM, the Audio Developer Conference and Moogfest. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for award-winning creative arts company and charity Heart n Soul. Tim also remains active as a Composer, Producer / Engineer and freelance Bass player.

Key information

The session will last 60 to 90 minutes, including Q&A. This will be a relaxed, informal event and audience participation is encouraged. We really want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to ask a question if they would like to. Submitting questions in advance enables us to ensure that they get answered.

About the Meet-up Sessions

Sound Without Sight is a community-led initiative, which collates and commissions resources to support blind and partially sighted musicians, audio engineers, voiceover artists, and other industry professionals to thrive. We want Sound Without Sight to grow into a thriving community that showcases the work of blind and partially sighted creatives, and how they navigated the industry to find themselves in their current role.

Starting in February 2024, we will be curating monthly virtual Meet-up Sessions, which will bring together established professionals, community members who are just starting out, and everybody in between, creating a space to share knowledge, solutions, and tips for success.

The sessions will be open, informal, and supportive – we hope that all attendees will feel comfortable to ask questions as well as share advice. Please sign up via the link at the end of this page, as spaces are limited.

How will the Meet-ups be structured?

Each session will begin with a live interview between a headline guest speaker or panel and members of the Sound Without Sight team. The host will ask curated questions, including relevant ones submitted in advance by the community.
We will then open up to questions and discussion between attendees, which could be about anything related to music or audio.
Finally, we will round off the session by playing out audio submissions and sharing updates from community members. Got a new release coming out? Tried something new or achieved something that you’d like to share? Let us know at least a week before the session and we’ll carve out time to shout about it!

When and where?

Third Thursday of the month, 7:00pm UK time. Sessions will take place on Zoom and last around an hour, followed by some open Q&A time.
