Last month, Sound Without Sight had the amazing opportunity of recording a podcast for ’Music Industry Insights Worldwide’, to chat about the work of the project.
‘Music Industry Insights Worldwide’ is a podcast series based on exploring diversity and equality in the music industry —each episode features a special guest/guests who are part of a minority group to talk about their musical journey. These include disabled people, people of colour, people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and many more.
So as part of this, Jay, Sarah, and I spoke to Saskhia Menendez – host of the series – about our own personal journeys into the music industry. We discussed our general thoughts and feelings about the industry as well as barriers and challenges we face or have faced, and possible causes and solutions to these obstacles. One of our solutions was the Sound Without Sight knowledge hub, which we are planning to make the harbour of as many resources as we can with regards to accessing music as a blind or partially sighted person, and helpful information for other professionals who are keen on assisting blind/visually impaired musicians.
The episode is titled “Harmonising Beyond Vision: Jay, Zenny, and Sarah Explore Sound Without Sight in the Music Industry”, and is available on both Apple Podcasts and Spotify, as well as other podcast platforms.
I thought the conversation was engaging and insightful, and believe it would be an interesting listen for other blind musicians as well as industry professionals, education professionals, and anyone else who is keen to learn about diversity in the industry.
